SAM VAN DEN BERG
During my many years in eventing, I have had a taste of a number of different industries. My most favourite being the décor and design industry. My years of involvement with Decorex SA offered me wonderful opportunities. The most momentous was meeting Leatrice Eiseman.
Leatrice is the executive director of the Pantone® Color Institute and has her own business, the Eiseman Center for Color Information and Training. She is the author of numerous books on colour and sits on the panel that decides the Pantone Color of the Year. She is recognised by both Fortune Magazine and the Wall Street Journal as one of the most influential people in the world of colour.
Lee has been called “the international color guru” by many but I am lucky enough to just call her my friend.
Thanks to Plascon and Decorex SA, Lee visited South Africa in 2009 and 2012. During these visits I got to know Lee well and of course she recognised my innate understanding and judgement of colour along with my underlying passion for it. Lee persuaded me to attend her colour courses in her home town of Bainbridge Island just off Seattle. What a good choice this turned out to be. Doing what I love is a treat and to have been taught by the color guru Leatrice is even more of an honour.
This year, Plascon Colour Manager, Anne Roselt has asked me to coordinate the Plascon Colour Design Awards, and I am once again reminded of the impact colour has on spaces and on the lives of people living in them.
I am offering a unique service as a colour consultant; it’s a relatively new concept in South Africa but has taken the world and big business by storm. I can’t wait to share my knowledge and secrets of colour harmony with you.
