A step-by-step DIY guide for restoring wooden doors

STEP 1: If the coating is in poor condition, you can remove the varnish with Woodcare Coating Remover. For Wood or oils and preservatives with Woodcare Wax and Oil Remover. (See pack for detailed instructions).

STEP 2: Greyed wood fibres can be removed with Woodcare Weathered Wood Restorer. Apply and leave for 5 minutes and scrub with a stiff bristle brush in the direction of the wood grain.

STEP 3: Brighten and clean your garage door with Woodcare Cleaner and Brightener For Wood. Rinse with fresh water and allow to dry thoroughly.

STEP 4: Lightly sand the garage door with 220 grit sandpaper to achieve a smooth finish.

STEP 5: Finish off your restored garage door with a product from the Plascon Sunproof range for a long-lasting gloss or suede finish. If you prefer a more natural oiled finish, use Plascon Wood Preservative.

      One should not add a stain to a tin of Plascon Clear Suede Varnish. You should rather apply a stain first, allow it to dry and then overcoat with your desired varnish.

      Please note that the Plascon Woodcare Wood Stain (W Range) is suitable for use on all interior furniture and panelling and can be over-coated with a wide range of interior Woodcare varnishes. Please find the technical data sheet in the link provided and refer to surface preparation, application and caution.
